Welcome to the Instructor's CERT Communications Training Web Page

This is a hidden work page for providing information on CERT Communications Training. There are two types of CERT Communications Training available - Publiic Radio (FRS/GMRS*) and Amateur Radio*. Both will be included below. Note: * these need a FCC License - GMRS, just $85 and registration; Amateur, a test and registration. Both end up with a FCC Call Sign to be used for on air verification.

Public Radio (FRS/GMRS) Overview Training

Many thanks to Virginia RACES who put together the following material which has become the standard for training on this subject.
There are two parts to the training, first part an overview, second part more a how to operate your radio. The script follows for each part.

Amateur Radio Overview Training

This is an introduction to Radio Communications, Amateur Radio, and ARRL/ARES. I usually bring in Amateur Radio Handheld and Mobile Units and FRS/GMRS Radio Pair to show along with ARRL/ARES Brochures. I also have the big FCC Frequency Allocation Chart on the wall.

Amateur Radio Technician Class Self or Instructed Training

This is a study guide and modified (updated) question pool for the Technician Class Amateur Radio License. License Levels are Techinian, General, and Extra. Also below is the Instructed Training Powerpoints for the Technician Class License. Thanks to the authors for the material.

Santa Cruz County CERT Communications Resources and Frequency Chart

This is the same one that is on the Resouces Page. We have asked that the FIRST Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM you check in to see who you can hear of the first frequency (no PL tone) of your radio type and find out the area where they live - this includes the Amateur simplex frequency at the top for CERT Hams.
